Hi, my name is Haley Teske and I'm a senior in the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University. I'll be graduating in May 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Management and a minor in Marketing. I've been involved with several groups on campus, including Delta Sigma Pi Professional Business Fraternity and the Boiler Gold Rush New Student Orientation program. I've also participated in several case competitions, including the 2010 American Eagle Marketing case competition. In that competition I created the marketing campaign for our group, and got good feedback from the judges on my ideas. In the 2011 General Mills Case Competition, I was responsible for creating the product launch plan. The launch plan that I created got great feedback from the employees at the Marketing-driven General Mills, as they felt that it was the most innovative launch plan presented at the competition. I feel that these cases have given me an insight into strategic marketing which I could not gain from a textbook.
Outside of school, I have worked as a Social Media Intern and Social Media Coordinator for a popular Indianapolis based restaurant and I am currently the Marketing Intern for the Center for Career Opportunities at Purdue.
In addition to Purdue University, I also studied at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia this past summer. I took a course on tourism marketing and sustainable business practices. The course included class-work and field studies. For example, we toured the 2000 Olympics site to see how it is marketed as an events venue in order to sustain the area.
These past experiences have only further confirmed to me that Marketing is the area in business that I wish to pursue. I love being able to think out of the box to solve a problem, but I can also look at things logically and analytically. I believe that the combination of creativity and a logical thought process are key to being successful in the field of Marketing.
Up until this past year, I didn't really have a clue as to what I wanted to do after college. I always thought it was crazy that we had to decide what we wanted to do with the rest of our lives at the age of 18. However, while studying abroad in Australia, I had somewhat of an epiphany at a dive bar in Melbourne. As I was standing there listening to the band play, it hit me. I want a career in the music or entertainment industry. Why I had never considered it as a viable path is beyond me. All of my free time is spent looking for the next great band, reading about innovative new trends in the entertainment industry, and giving recommendations to friends on what music to listen to.
So, now that I've finally realized what my true passion is, I am going to do whatever it takes to make that dream a reality. I have my heart set on securing a position in the music industry of Nashville, TN. I'd love to get into A&R, but I also have a strong affinity for marketing and social media. I am hoping that although I have no experience within the entertainment/music industry, my experiences at Purdue University show that I can be an asset to any company that I am a part of.
